my grandmother, carmel, just received bypass surgery. when visited her in the hospital, she pointed out that the woman across the room from her had just woken up from a surgery in which she was given a new heart from girl that had died in a car accident. i couldn’t stop staring at her. or thinking about how this new part of her would affect her:
